General safety guidelines

Always observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of injury and property

Service

Do not attempt to service any product yourself, unless instructed otherwise by the

Customer Support Center. Allow only an authorized service provider to carry out

repairs.

Heat and product ventilation

Computers, AC power adapters and various accessories generate heat during use, as

do batteries while being charged. Always follow the basic precautions below:

• Do not leave a computer, AC power adapter or accessory in contact with the body

for extended periods of use, or while the battery is charging. Computers, AC power

adapters and accessories generate heat during normal operation; contact with the

body for extended periods can cause discomfort or, potentially, a skin burn.

• Do not charge a battery or operate your computer, AC power adapter or accessories

near flammable materials or in explosive environments.

• This product includes ventilation slots, fans and heat sinks for safe and reliable

operation. These safety features may be compromised if the product is placed on a

bed, sofa, carpet or other soft surface. Never block, cover or disable these safety

features.

This chapter provides descriptions and instructions on use of the removable graphics.

Product description

A removable graphics (hereafter referred to as ‘the module’) will increase

performance over that of a single GPU.

Using the removable graphics

The GPU performance varies depending on the adapter power rating. By using both

the battery and connecting a 170 W adapter, the dual discrete GPUs can work at their

optimum capacity.

When you plug an Ultrabay VGA card for the first time, you need to manually install

the Nvidia VGA card driver; when you unplug it, install the Intel and Nvidia VGA

card drivers.

After this operation, you will be able to plug/unplug the VGA card without updating

any VGA card drivers.

Note: For proper operation of the system, make sure the master VGA card and the

slave VGA card are of the same model.

Replacing the removable graphics

Note: Before replacing the module, turn off your computer and disconnect the AC

adapter and all cables.

1 Remove the battery pack.

2 Push the latch in the direction shown by the arrow a.

3 Hold the spring-loaded latch in the unlocked position b.

Gently pull out the optional module

5 Gently push the module into the module compartment. d.

6 Lock the latch in the direction shown by the arrow e.

7 Install the battery pack.

8 Plug in the adapter and turn on your computer.

Utilisation de la carte graphique amovible

Les performances du GPU varient selon la puissance nominale de l’adaptateur.

L’utilisation simultanée de la batterie et d’un adaptateur secteur de 170 W permet

d’optimiser la capacité des GPU discrets.

Lorsque vous branchez une carte VGA Ultrabay pour la première fois, vous devez

installer manuellement le pilote de la carte Nvidia, lorsque vous la débranchez,

installez les pilotes des cartes Intel et VGA Nvidia.

Après cette opération, vous serez en mesure de brancher / débrancher la carte VGA

sans avoir à actualiser le pilote d’une carte VGA.

Remarque : Pour un bon fonctionnement du système, assurez-vous que les cartes

VGA mère et VGA esclave sont du même modèle.

Remplacement de la carte graphique amovible

Remarque : Avant de remplacer le module, éteignez l’ordinateur, puis débranchez

l’adaptateur secteur et tous les câbles.

1 Retirez la batterie.

2 Poussez le loquet dans la direction indiquée par la flèche a.

3 Maintenez le loquet à ressort en position de déverrouillage b.

Tirez délicatement le module en option pour le retirer

5 Poussez délicatement le module dans le logement prévu à cet effet d.

6 Placez le loquet dans la direction indiquée par la flèche e pour le verrouiller e.

7 Installez la batterie.

8 Branchez l’adaptateur et mettez votre ordinateur sous tension.
